Libya’s Airports Authority reported today that the Arab Aviation Organization and the Cooperative Programme in Aviation Security in the Middle East arrived at Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport yesterday to audit the procedures at the airport to ensure that they comply with national and international requirements.
The visiting audit team held a meeting with the Director General of Mitiga Airport, the Director of the Mitiga Airport Port Security Directorate, the Director of the Security Office at the Civil Aviation Authority, the Director of the Operation and Safety Department, and the Director of the Airport Security Office.
During the meeting, the documents followed in the application of security measures were presented, followed by a field visit to audit and inspect the airport’s security procedures.
The team will continue its work for three days and aims to assess the compliance of Libyan airports with international aviation security standards in preparation for the audit to be carried out by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
The audit team will visit some Libyan airports, and the programme will include assessing the security measures in place and ensuring the application of international laws and regulations related to aviation security.
Libya’s Civil Aviation Authority, on the other hand, said this initiative comes within the framework of regional cooperation between Arab countries to enhance security and safety standards in aviation through the exchange of experiences and knowledge, and this effort reflects the commitment of the Civil Aviation Authority to achieve the highest levels of safety in the field of aviation.
The Airports Authority said the visit aims to enhance the level of aviation security at Libyan airports to ensure continued compliance with national and international standards in the field of aviation.
The eventual aim is to encourage other Arab carriers to start direct flights to Libya, then the lifting of the EU flight ban on Libya.
