Libya and UAE discuss resumption of flights – Airline delegations to visit Libya soon to discuss flight resumption dates

(GNU).

Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Transport Mohammed Al-Shahoubi held a meeting today at Mitiga International Airport with the envoy of the Civil Aviation Authority in Dubai, Ahmed Taher.

The Libyan government said the meeting came as part of strengthening cooperation between Libya and the United Arab Emirates in the field of air transport.

The meeting discussed arrangements for the resumption of flights by Emirates Airlines and Flydubai between Dubai International Airport and the Libyan airports of Mitiga, Misrata, and Benghazi. Technical and security aspects related to the resumption of regular flights were also discussed.

It was also agreed that a delegation from both companies would visit Libya soon to assess preparations and determine flight resumption dates.

The Ministry said the meeting is part of its efforts to open new horizons for international cooperation and enhance the openness of Libyan airports, contributing to supporting the national economy and stimulating commercial and tourism activity.

It will be recalled that on the sidelines of the activities of the 42nd session of the General Assembly of the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) held in Montreal, Canada (23 September to 3 October 2025), the Tripoli based Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al Shahoubi, met with the Executive Director of the Air Transport and International Affairs Sector at the Dubai Civil Aviation Authority, Saud Kankazar.‎

‎Dubai expresses desire to resume flights with Libya
The Tripoli government reported that the Emirati official expressed the Emirate’s desire to operate direct flights to Libyan airports, stressing Dubai’s keenness to enhance air cooperation between the two countries.‎

‎Written request by Dubai to set flight resumption date
The Emirati side, the Tripoli government further revealed, submitted a written request to the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority to set a date for conducting the necessary assessment by the competent authority, in preparation for the start of the operation of direct flights.‎
