The activities of the Sirte Economic Businessmen Forum, organized by the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, were launched in Sirte yesterday.
The event was hosted by the (Hafter controlled) National Development Agency (NDA) at its Sirte headquarters, and in the presence of the NDA Director General, Mahmoud Al-Furjani, and the President of the General Unionof Chambers of Commerce, Mohamed Al-Raied, the Mayor of Sirte Municipality, Mokhtar Al-Ma’dani, the chairmen of boards of directors of the chambers of commerce, including the Tripoli Chamber, and a group of businessmen from various cities.
Aim of forum
The organization of the forum comes within the framework of opening a space for constructive dialogue and the exchange of ideas, with the aim of crystallizing a promising future vision for the Libyan economy. It also comes within the aim of highlighting the most prominent obstacles to investment, reviewing the legislation and laws in force, and discussing ways to develop them in line with the requirements of the stage, and contribute to attracting capital and enhancing the investment environment.
The role of the national private sector in supporting the economy
During the first session, the role of the national private sector in supporting national projects and developing the local economy was discussed.
Speakers stressed the need to enhance communication between businessmen, to open new horizons for cooperation and investment. They discussed economic and development opportunities, in a way that contributes to supporting the national economy, to encourage partnership between the public and private sectors, exchange experiences, and promote economic development in various Libyan regions.
Practical recommendations to be submitted to competent authorities
The forum will continue its dialogue sessions to reach practical recommendations to be submitted to the competent authorities, with the aim of developing the legislative and economic environment in Libya, enhancing investment opportunities and achieving sustainable development.
