The Director General of the National Development Agency (NDA), Mahmoud Al-Furjani, held a meeting with the International Toll Road Services Department yesterday to review workflow and assess the standard of services provided.
The meeting also addressed technical and operational requirements aimed at enhancing performance efficiency and improving service quality along the International Road.
Libya’s Transit Road Corridors
The NDA is constructing international-standard roads aimed to be part of Libya’s Transit Road Corridors to facilitate transit trade between its Mediterranean coastal ports, including its Free Zone ports in Misrata, Sirte and Benghazi, to its southern borders with Niger and Chad.
This is part of a strategic project to make Libya a transit hub that links Europe with the landlocked Sub-Saharan African states.
The NDA said the meeting is part of ongoing efforts to monitor service facilities and ensure a safe, suitable environment for road users, aligning with operational needs and maintaining the readiness of the facilities.
The NDA is constructing international-standard roads to the southern borders starting from the Sirte Free Zone Port and from Benghazi's Julyana Free Zone Port. When completed, these will be Libya's first Toll Roads.
The Tripoli government is planning to construct its own separate road to the Niger border to link Misrata Free Zone Port, via Tamenhent Free Zone near Sebha.
