The Higher Committee for the National Economic Diversification Framework, chaired by Minister of Planning Mohammed Al-Zaidani, held a meeting today to review the work of the National Blue Economy Committee and discuss priority initiatives and projects in this field.
These efforts aim to support economic diversification and the sustainable utilization of marine resources.
The meeting also reviewed the stages of developing the National Blue Economy Strategy, which seeks to establish a roadmap for leveraging marine potential, developing related sectors, and creating sustainable job opportunities, all while preserving marine resources and ecosystems for future generations.
2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development
The meeting reviewed a package of priority initiatives and projects in the fields of the blue economy, which are designed to be in line with the goals of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development (SDG), especially Goal 14 (Life Underwater) related to the protection of marine ecosystems and the sustainable use of marine resources, Goal 8 (Decent Work and Economic Growth) by providing green and sustainable job opportunities, and Goal 9 (Industry, Innovation and Infrastructure) through the development of marine infrastructure and encouraging innovation in ocean-related sectors.
The Ministry said the blue economy represents an approach to utilizing marine resources and activities to support the economy and create jobs, while ensuring resource sustainability and protecting the marine environment.
