The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that Zawia Criminal Court convicted a Libyan national and nine expatriates of ‘‘engaging in activities detrimental to the national economy’’.
It reported that the Public Prosecution charged ten individuals who had formed a group operating from the vicinity of Zawia to manage the smuggling of diesel fuel and essential food commodities out of the country.
In its final ruling, the court sentenced the first defendant to fifteen years in prison, the second defendant to eighteen years, and the remaining defendants to seventeen years.
