The Tripoli based Libyan Minister of Transport, Mohamed Al-Shahoubi, chaired a meeting at his Tripoli office yesterday with the Committee charged with the preparations for the audit visit that will be conducted by the Arab Civil Aviation Authority and the Cooperative Programme for Civil Aviation Security for Mitiga and Misrata Airports.
The audit visit will take place from 8 to 14 February 2025.
During the meeting, the Minister and the attendees reviewed the problems and obstacles facing the workflow and finding solutions to them.
The gradual resumption of flights
It will be recalled that Libya has been working hard over the last decade to lift the EU flight ban. Several carriers are now flying regularly to Libyan airports, including Italy’s ITA Airways resuming direct flights between Tripoli and Rome last month.
Other flights that have started or resumed flights over the last few months/years include, MedSky (to Malta and Rome), Turkish Airlines, Egypt Air, and Royal Jordanian.
However, many airliners that used to operate to Libya including British Airways, Lufthansa, Swiss Air, Austrian Airlines, Emirates, Air Maroc, Algerian Air etc – have not resumed flights.
Moreover, Libyan registered carriers are still banned from flying to Europe.
