The Tripoli Libyan government media page reported today that the Head of the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, Mohamed Shalibek confirmed that Libya had signed an initial air services agreement with Qatar, in the presence of the Qatari Minister of Transport, Jassim bin Saif Al-Sulaiti.
This agreement, it reports, comes within the framework of working to restore flight traffic to Libyan airspace and to connect Libyan airports to the international airline network.
Resumption of Qatar Airways flights between the two countries
Based on the results of today’s discussions, the media site reported, the Qatari Civil Aviation delegation will arrive in Tripoli in the first week of May to discuss arrangements for the resumption of Qatar Airways flights between the two countries.
The government media site said that with Qatar Airways commencing its flights to Libya, after Turkish Airlines resumed its flights recently, the period of hesitation of international airlines regarding the security and technical aspects of Libyan airports will end, and the period of suffering of travellers in most international sectors to and from Libyan airports will end.
It will open, it added, new and promising horizons and opportunities in various fields in Libya.
