An audit delegation from Italian Civil Aviation visited Tripoli’s Mitiga airport on Tuesday and Wednesday (16th and 17th May), Libya’s Airports Authority reported yesterday.
The aim of the inspection visit was to check the airport and determining the extent of compliance with the standards recommended by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).
On the side lines of the visit, a meeting was held at the airport management headquarters, attended by the Director General of the Airport, the Director of the Compliance Standards Department in charge, specialists from the technical departments of the Airports Authority and the Civil Aviation Authority, and some officials in charge of the authorities concerned with securing and protecting the airport.
During this meeting, documents, programmes, operational procedures, and safety and security measures taken at the airport were presented.
The visit also included a tour to inspect some facilities, including the fence surrounding the airport and the procedures followed for inspection at entry points for individuals and vehicles on the air side and the customs area, in addition to visiting the new departure hall and its equipment.
This Airports Authority said the visit comes within the framework of the coordination that took place between the two governments to contribute to the resumption of flights between Libyan and Italian airports and to lift the ban imposed on Libyan aircraft into European airspace.
