Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister, Abd Alhamid Aldabaiba, ‎met at his Tripoli office with the Acting Minister of Oil and Gas Khalifa Abdel Sadig yesterday. The Tripoli based government said the meeting was to follow up on several files of the Ministry of Oil and Gas.

‎Abdel Sadig, it will be recalled, was detained on 7 August by the Attorney General over an illegal € 457.6 million payment to a foreign company.

‎At yesterday’s meeting the Tripoli based Libyan government reported that Abdel Sadig reviewed the ministry's plan through the National Oil Corporation to increase production, activate international agreements on exploration and development, and develop the work mechanism of the Brega Oil Marketing Company.‎

‎In turn, it reported, Aldabaiba stressed the need to follow up on the implementation of the approved plan to increase productivity in oil and gas, stressing the need to follow up on the situation of oil fields and not allow their closure (by Khalifa Hafter) under flimsy pretexts (in protest at the arms smuggling charge by Spain and the appointment of a new Central Bank of Libya Governor), and the need to hold accountable those who carry out these shameful acts and refer them to the competent authorities.‎

Abdel Sadig, it will be recalled, had replaced former Oil and Gas Minister Mohamed Aoun as Acting Oil and Gas Minister when Aoun was suspended by the Administrative Control Authority (ACA) on 25 March this year. However, Aldabaiba kept Abdel Sadig on in his post despite Aoun being subsequently cleared by the ACA.
