Waha Oil is targeting an additional 42,000 barrels of oil per day in 2026 through development drilling and maintenance of closed wells.

The revelation came last Tuesday (11 August) during the annual technical and financial plans and progress review of Waha’s activities and projects for 2025-27. This came in a two-day meeting at the National Oil Corporation’s (NOC) Tripoli headquarters.

The first day covered presentations on safety and environment, reservoir engineering, drilling and maintenance programmes, projects, technology, financial affairs, and the production increase plan, as indicators showed stable production at 357 thousand barrels per day, with a target of adding 42 thousand barrels per day during the year 2026 through development drilling and maintenance of closed well. Of this target, 27,000 barrels per day were completed, with a rate of 64% achieved.

A programme to drill 29 wells (20 vertical, 5 horizontal, and 4 water-injection wells) was also reviewed.

The second day was devoted to discussing engineering projects, the challenge of pipe leaks and priorities for addressing them, and financial obligations and their impact on contractors, with an emphasis on providing financing and raising safety standards.

The meeting concluded with the NOC’s emphasis on continuous coordination to address obstacles and accelerate projects to ensure the sustainability and increase of production.

The meeting was held in the presence of a member of the Board of Directors for Exploration and Production Affairs, the Chairman of the Company’s Management Committee, representatives of the two foreign partners (ConocoPhillips and Total Energies), and specialists from both sides.
