The head of Libya’s General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Mohamed Raied, hosted the Spanish Ambassador at Chamber’s Tripoli headquarters yesterday.
The meeting, which included the Chamber's Advisors, the Director General, and several officials and staff, addressed economic and trade relations between Libya and Spain, and ways to develop and enhance them to broader levels, serving mutual interests and opening new horizons for cooperation between the two countries.
Madrid’s third Libyan-European Oil, Gas, and Energy Forum
The meeting also touched upon the third Libyan-European Oil, Gas, and Energy Forum, scheduled to be held in Madrid, Spain, from December 2 to 3, 2026.
The President of the Union requested the Ambassador's support for this event with the relevant Spanish authorities, particularly the Spanish Trade Office and Repsol, and his efforts to provide the necessary conditions and resources to ensure the forum's success and enhance the participation of Spanish companies and institutions.
For his part, the Ambassador, according to the Chamber, expressed his full readiness to exert every effort to contribute to the success of the forum, emphasizing the importance of such events in strengthening economic ties and opening new channels of cooperation between the private sectors of both countries.
A visit by the Minister of Housing and Utilities to Spain
Raied also requested assistance in coordinating with the relevant Spanish authorities to organize a visit by the Minister of Housing and Utilities to Spain. The aim of this visit would be to hold meetings with several Spanish officials, institutions, and companies specializing in construction, building, and infrastructure, and to benefit from Spanish expertise and capabilities in these fields.
The Chamber reported that the Ambassador welcomed this initiative and expressed his readiness to provide the necessary support and assistance, as well as to coordinate with the relevant Spanish authorities, to ensure the success of this visit and the achievement of its objectives.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the Ambassador affirmed his commitment to continued communication and joint work, which will contribute to strengthening Libyan-Spanish relations and developing economic, trade, and investment cooperation between the two countries.
