The Spanish Ambassador to Libya, Ambassador Javier García-Larrache, held a farewell reception at his residence in Tripoli today for the Libyan authorities and the diplomatic corps (attended by Libya Herald) after almost 4 years at the head of the Embassy.
Ambassador Javier García-Larrache took office in July 2020 and since his arrival has contributed significantly to increasing Spanish presence in Libya. Since the reopening of the Embassy by the Spanish Prime Minister in June 2021, the Ambassador has promoted an intense diplomatic, commercial and cultural activity.
He has been able to visit Benghazi, Nalut, Ghadames, Tobruk and Misrata, among others, to strengthen ties of friendship with the Libyan people.
The Spanish commercial presence has increased significantly, and he has also played a decisive role in the reopening of the visa processing office for Libyan citizens in Tripoli in November 2023.
On a cultural level, since June 2022 the Embassy has made every effort to offer a cultural agenda every month to bring Spanish culture closer to Libya. In this regard, the Spanish Embassy has offered film screenings, dance shows, music, painting, fashion and gastronomy during this period.
The arrival of the new Ambassador, Mr. Javier Soria Quintana, is scheduled for June.
