Minister of Economy and Trade meets with Spanish Ambassador – urges activation of MoU’s

The Minister of Economy and Trade, Mr. Mohamed Hwej, met with the Ambassador of Spain, Javier Garcia-Larrache, on Tuesday at the Ministry’s Tripoli headquarters.

The meeting came within the framework of following up and activating the progress of economic and commercial cooperation between the two countries.

Activate and update MoU’s
Economy Minister Hwej stressed the importance of cooperation and that the Tripoli-based Libyan government seeks to achieve economic and commercial stability, noting the need to activate the agreements and memorandums of understanding concluded between the two countries and updating them in line with international changes in the field of economy and trade

Food security
The Minister called for strengthening cooperation in the field of food security, especially in the field of agriculture and livestock resources and benefit from Spanish experiences in cooperation with the relevant authorities.

He urged the Spanish ambassador to urge Spanish companies to return to work in Libya, to benefit from investment opportunities and create partnerships with the Libyan private sector.

Hwej pointed to the importance of the role of the commercial attaché in overcoming all the difficulties facing economic and commercial activities, in direct coordination with the Libyan Embassy in Spain.

In conclusion, the Minister of Economy and Trade invited the Spanish Minister of Trade to visit Libya.

30 Spanish companies returned to Libya
For his part, the Spanish Ambassador expressed the desire of the Spanish government to build commercial and economic relations with Libya, pointing to the return of more than 30 companies to work in Libya and that the embassy is working to facilitate the granting of visas to business owners.
