The Spanish Embassy in Tripoli confirmed to Libya Herald that from 11 to 18 February this year, a team of five Spanish doctors have been performing operations in several fields – successfully completing the 10th medical campaign.

70 major surgeries in one week
Four specialists in orthopaedic surgery and traumatology and a specialist in plastic surgery and reconstruction participated in the tenth campaign, accompanied by a Libyan doctor residing in Spain. They performed 70 major surgeries in one week.

More than 25 Spanish specialists visited Libya since October 2022
Since October 2022, more than 25 Spanish specialists visited Libya collaborating with the Libyan Medical Emergency and Support Centre (EMSC) in its programme to localise treatment in Libya. In the process, the team also helped train the EMSC’s young medical staff and presented the latest findings in the field of medicine and surgery.

Over the year and 10 visits, Spanish doctors have treated more than 3,000 Libyan patients and have performed more than 400 surgeries in different specialties.

The Spanish Embassy reports that the EMSC say they are proud to collaborate with the Spanish team, since they have demonstrated great professionalism in their treatments and humanity in dealing with Libyan patients.
