Libya and Malta discussed the intended route and landing points for the planned electric interconnection between the two countries.

The discussions took place today during a meeting at the Tripoli based Libyan Prime Minister’s Office between the Advisor to the Prime Minister for Electricity and Renewable Energy Affairs, Osama Al-Darrat, and Chairman of the Electrical Interconnection Committee with Southern European Countries, along with the Deputy Ambassador of Malta to Libya and the Maltese technical team.

The meeting, according to the Tripoli government, reviewed the technical report of the field study of the line’s route and landing points prepared by the Maltese side.

The most important points contained in the report that concluded with determining the route of the line were also clarified. The two sides also stressed the importance of the project and the continuation of advanced studies.

The Rome meeting, REAoL said, came in continuation of the discussions related to the Libyan-Italian electrical interconnection proposal.

It discussed presenting several proposals to enhance the chances of success of this ambitious project which will give Libya a pivotal role in transferring energy between Africa and Europe and exploiting the vast sources of renewable energies.

The Chairman of the Electrical Interconnection Committee, REAoL had added, stressed the necessity of intensifying the holding of these meetings and invited the Italian side to attend the next meeting that will be arranged in Libya.
