The Tripoli Security Directorate announced the reopening of Airport Road to traffic following the completion of paving and maintenance work near the Third Ring Road bridge, on the side leading to Tripoli International Airport.
The Directorate indicated that traffic has returned to normal, while emphasizing the need to adhere to speed limits and follow the instructions of traffic officers, in order to enhance public safety and ensure smooth traffic flow.
The reopening of the Airport Road towards Tripoli International Airport (TIA) has caused a stir in Tripoli with the increasing prospect that TIA will indeed be reopening ‘‘soon’’.
Despite several efforts by Libya Herald to obtain confirmation of a planned opening date, no official entity has been willing to go on record.
Unofficially, the best estimates are sometime around October this year.
Yesterday, during a meeting between Abubaker Ibrahim Al-Tawil, Director of the European Affairs Department of the Tripoli based Ministry of Foreign Affairs, at the Ministry’s headquarters, and Ben Rawlings, Deputy Ambassador of the United Kingdom to Libya, Al-Tawil noted:
‘‘the imminent reopening of Tripoli International Airport and the importance this represents in enhancing travel and connectivity between the two (UK and Libya) countries and supporting cooperation across various fields’’.
