Libyan Business Council Discusses Trade Ties with Spanish Embassy

The Libyan Business Council (LBC) reported that it held a meeting today at its Tripoli headquarters with representatives from the Commercial Office of the Spanish Embassy in Libya.

The meeting focused on avenues of cooperation between the LBC and the Embassy to support economic relations between Libya and Spain at the private-sector level and to foster direct communication between private-sector institutions and companies in both countries.

Discussions covered ways to enhance Libyan-Spanish trade and encourage Spanish companies to gain greater insight into investment and business opportunities in the Libyan market. The meeting also explored areas of cooperation and partnership with Libyan companies across several priority economic sectors.

During the meeting, the LBC presented its vision for supporting investment within Libya. This included plans to map out private-sector investment opportunities and projects, present clear, partnership-ready projects to international investors and companies, and connect Libyan project owners with potential partners from Spain and other countries.

Furthermore, the participants reviewed sectors offering promising opportunities for cooperation and discussed mechanisms to enhance communication, information exchange, and direct business-to-business meetings.

Plans were also discussed to organize a Libyan-Spanish economic event in the coming months, aiming to facilitate the establishment of practical trade and investment partnerships between the private sectors of both nations.

Spanish multi-sector mission to Libya: 6-9 September
It will be recalled that, for the second consecutive year, Spain’s Tarragona Chamber of Commerce organised a multisector business mission to Tripoli, with the support of the Economic and Commercial Office of the Embassy of Spain in Libya and the Tripoli Chamber of Commerce. The mission is taking place from 6 to 9 September.

The Spanish-Libyan Business Forum, it will be recalled, was also held in Madrid last April and organised by the Spanish Chamber of Commerce and the General Union of Libyan Chambers of Commerce, Industry and Agriculture. The event attracted strong business participation, highlighting the growing interest among Spanish companies in the Libyan market and the opportunities it offers.

Looking forward, the third Libyan-European Oil, Gas, and Energy Forum, is also scheduled to be held in Madrid, Spain, from December 2 to 3, 2026.

Moreover, these trade visits are now facilitated by the launch last April by MedSky airlines of its direct service between Libya and Madrid.
