Libyan Express announces launch of direct flights between Tripoli’s Mitiga Airport and Malta starting 22 June

Libyan Express announced today the launch of its direct scheduled flights between Mitiga International Airport and Malta starting 22 June

The carrier said it is scheduling two weekly round-trip flights.

It will be recalled that Libyan Express airline announced on 11 May that it had signed a cooperation in Italy between it and Horizon Technic from the Libyan side, and ALBA Technic along with 4Airways from the Italian side.

The carrier had said the agreement aimed at strengthening cooperation in the fields of air transport and aircraft maintenance in accordance with European standards.

Libyan Express (IATA: LB) is a private Libyan charter airline based at Tripoli’s Mitiga International Airport, specializing in tailored air services, including oil and gas industry support, VIP flights, and air ambulance services. It serves domestic locations and nearby countries.

Libyan Express says the agreement included two main aspects:

– First: An agreement between Libyan Express and 4 Airways to launch a joint air route connecting Libya and Europe. The airliner said the destinations and operational details will be announced soon. 

– Second: An agreement between Horizon Technic and ALBA Technic for cooperation in European EASA-certified aircraft maintenance services at Misrata Airport, contributing to the development and enhancement of the aviation maintenance sector in Libya.

Libyan Express had said these agreements reflect a shared vision toward expanding international partnerships and strengthening the presence of Libyan companies within the regional and international aviation industry.

It is worth noting that MedSky had announced on 15 May that it was adding an additional flight to this route starting from 23 June.

EU flight ban?
Despite the EU ban on ”scheduled ” as opposed to ”chartered” flights to and from Libya because of the country’s instability and security following the 2011 revolution, MedSky already operates charter flights to Athens, Madrid, Milano, Rome – as well as to Malta.

MedSky also launched its flights to and from Dusseldorf on 17 May. These numerous flights from Libya to European destinations make a mockery of the EU flight ban.
