The Tourism Information and Documentation Centre, part of Libya’s Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts, released yesterday its statistical report for the first quarter of 2026. The report includes key indicators of tourism performance, visitor traffic, accommodation occupancy rates, and the nationalities of visitors to Libya.
The report’s data shows the following:
▪️ More than 121,000 visitors were recorded in cities and archaeological sites during the first quarter of the year. The ancient city of Cyrene topped the list of most visited destinations, followed by the ancient city of Sabratha.
▪️ The total number of tourist accommodation facilities reached 777, including hotels, hotel apartments, and tourist villages in various regions.
▪️ Hotels and tourist villages received more than 159,000 guests, with the highest concentration in Tripoli, followed by the eastern Green Mountain region and Benghazi.
The report recorded 974 international tourists from 54 different nationalities, with China and Italy topping the list of nationalities visiting Libya.
The Ministry said this reflects the diversity of international tourism markets interested in Libya as a destination, with tourist arrivals growing by more than 41% between the first quarter of 2025 and the first quarter of this year.
This report is part of the Tourism Information and Documentation Centre’s efforts to support decision-making and provide an accurate database that contributes to the development of the tourism sector and promotes investment and tourism planning in Libya.
