EUBAM Libya announced yesterday that it has enhanced Libya’s capacity to counter illicit trafficking by training 30 officers from the Narcotics and Psychotropic Drugs Control Agency and the Libyan Customs Authority (LCA) on the use of advanced handheld x-ray scanners.
Held on 21-22 August at the Drugs Control Agency headquarters in Tripoli, the two-day training combined theoretical modules on scanner operations with hands-on simulations of border searches and checkpoint inspections. Officers also received instruction on maintenance and safety protocols to ensure the scanners can be used effectively for years to come.
“This training represents a practical step in strengthening Libya’s border management capacities,” said EUBAM Deputy Head of Mission Frederik Petersen.
