The Attorney General’s Office announced yesterday the arrest of members of groups based on the activity of depots used for fuel smuggling in Misrata and Khoms.
The Attorney General’s Office reported that thousands of litres of fuel that it deemed were prepared for smuggling were seized. More pertinently, it said it was proven that this quantity was received by some distribution networks (petrol stations chains) as part of their duty to retail it to consumers.
The Attorney General’s Office said the Public Prosecution immediately ordered the seizure of means of transportation and fuel (fuel trucks), close the illegal fuel depots and directed the Judicial Officer to question the leaders of the arrested groups.
The announcement of arrests and seizures by the Attorney General come amidst a fuel crisis gripping Western Libya and efforts by the Tripoli government to mitigate the crisis.
