The Attorney General’s Office announced last Monday (19 January) that the investigating authority ordered the detention of two members of a criminal gang involved in smuggling illegal immigrants to the northern Mediterranean and manufacturing boats for their transport.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office acted on information from the Special Tasks Department, related to its investigation into an organized group engaged in boat building for the purpose of smuggling immigrants from the shores of the Silin region (near Khoms) to the northern Mediterranean.
The Public Prosecutor’s Office authorized a search that resulted in the arrest of two individuals caught in the act of building boats for transporting immigrants. The investigator recorded their confession to their involvement in managing the prohibited activity, then ordered their pretrial detention and directed the implementation of measures to dismantle the criminal gang and pursue the remaining members.
