The newly installed Steering Committee of the National Cement Company ‘‘Al-Ahlia’’ continues to work on organizing the cement distribution mechanism to ensure it reaches citizens more easily and fairly, free from speculation and exploitation.

In this context, the company said a new distribution system is being prepared that utilizes modern monitoring and oversight mechanisms. This system prioritizes transparency and fairness in allocation, ensuring the product reaches those truly entitled to it while curbing monopolization, hoarding, and illegal resale.

Ahlia said the system also aims to clearly regulate the distribution process and track the movement of supplies from the factory to the end-user. This helps minimize irregularities and ensures citizens receive the product at the factory price with maximum ease and clarity.

Meanwhile, Ahlia said the company’s plants are continuing bagging and preparation operations in anticipation of deliveries, with specialized teams finalizing the technical and organizational arrangements for an orderly launch.

The official start date for deliveries will be announced in the coming days via the company’s official page and channels.

Ahlia said the goal is not merely to supply cement, but to organize its distribution properly ensuring fairness and upholding the rights of citizens.

Libya’s state cement manufacturing sector - the subject of deep corruption for decades
It will be recalled that Libya’s state cement manufacturing sector has been the subject of deep corruption for decades. Locally produced and indirectly subsidised cement, through cheap electricity, is often retailed at the same price or even more than imported cement.

Management profiteers by restricting supply and selling to their informal partner distributors.

It is, therefore, hoped that with the appointment of a new Ahlia Steering Committee will indeed lead to more transparency and fairness in the distribution of cement.

Today, cement was retailing at LD 88 /quintar/quintal in Tripoli. It had reached a low of an average of 73 dinars in mid-June.
