The National Tourist Caravan Programme was launched from the city of Khoms yesterday, home to the Roman ruins of Leptis Magna.

The programme is a unified programme that combines the promotion of tourism and cultural assets, the stimulation of tourism activity, and the highlighting of the historical and tourist site of Leptis in Khoms.

The Ministry of Tourism and Handicrafts said this coordination comes within the framework of strengthening partnerships among relevant stakeholders and unifying efforts to ensure the success of tourism and national events. This, it added, would thereby contribute to revitalizing the tourism landscape, showcasing Al-Khoms and its cultural heritage as a promising tourist destination.

‎The launch was in the presence of the Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts, Nasreddine Fezzani, several officials, security leaders and representatives of the Tunisian side, including the Tunisian Chargé d'affaires, in addition to members of Khoms Municipal Council, city dignitaries, academics, tourist guides and those interested in the sector.‎

Stimulating tourism
Minister of Tourism and Handicrafts Fezzani stressed that the tourism sector is witnessing positive indicators, pointing to the ministry's efforts to stimulate tourism activity, encourage investment, and build a national tourism identity that highlights the civilized, cultural and natural elements of Libya.‎

Strengthening Libyan-Tunisian tourism cooperation
For his part, the Chargé d'affaires of the Embassy of Tunisia in Libya, Mohamed Habib Sassi, stressed his country's support for the success of the convoy, and the importance of strengthening Libyan-Tunisian tourism cooperation and the exchange of experiences.

Importance of security and stability for tourism
The commander of the Counter-Terrorism Force, Lieutenant General Mohammed Al-Zein, also stressed the importance of security and stability in supporting tourism and consolidating Libya's image as a safe and attractive destination.‎

Launch of magazine: The Destination
The programme included PowerPoint presentations on the objectives of the convoy and indicators of the tourism sector. It also included the announcement of the launch of the magazine "The Destination" as a media platform specialized in introducing the Libyan tourism, heritage and cultural components.‎

Libya’s tourism and brand identity
The programme also witnessed a workshop entitled "The Brand and Tourism Identity", during which the foundations of building the tourism brand and its role in enhancing the competitiveness of cities and tourist destinations was discussed.‎

Branding Khoms – home to Leptis Magna
The activities concluded with the announcement of the formation of a specialized work team to prepare the tourist mark and identity of the city of Al-Khoms, in a way that contributes to highlighting its historical, cultural and tourist specificity and enhancing its position among the promising tourist destinations in Libya.‎
