The Attorney General’s Office reported yesterday that its Deputy Prosecutor investigated allegations of misconduct by the financial controller at the mission to the Vatican City State.
The investigator determined that the official had deviated from the principles of his assigned duties by deliberately disbursing €596,249 from funds allocated for the treatment of wounded Libyans without any documentation verifying the identities of the Libyan patients or authorizing the medical institution to provide them with medical services.
He also spent €50,000 on purposes other than those for which it was designated.
Consequently, the investigator ordered the accused’s detention pending further investigation.
