Mohamed Takala yesterday won the elections to become head of the High State Council.
Takala reported to local Libyan media that in the five-member contest, he had won by 59 votes in a session attended by 95 members.
The results were:
Ali Al-Suwaih – 13 votes
Abdullah Jawan – 14 votes
Suleiman Al-Zoubi – 1 vote
Mohamed Takala – 59 votes
Naji Mokhtar – 8 votes
Aldabaiba congratulates Takala
Aldabaiba congratulated Mohamed Takala on gaining the confidence of the members of the High State Council and his selection as its president. He affirmed his support for everything that would enhance political stability and called for greater understanding and integration between institutions to achieve the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity, and to translate their desire for direct elections and an end to all transitional phases.

However, former HSC head Khaled Al-Mishri affirmed that the session held yesterday to elect the office of the HSC’s presidency is illegitimate due to its lack of any constitutional or legal basis and the failure to reach a genuine consensus within the HSC.
