The House of Representatives' Committee on Planning, Finance, and the General Budget held an emergency meeting today with Naji Issa, the Governor of the Central Bank of Libya (CBL).
The meeting comes following the Governor's request to step down from his role as Governor of the CBL.
The Committee rejected the Governor's request to resign, urging him to continue in his role and pledging support to help him overcome challenges and difficulties, while also calling for a joint effort to formulate a comprehensive economic reform plan aimed at achieving desired national objectives.
It will be recalled that the head of the High State Council (HSC), Mohamed Takala had, last Monday (10 August), directed the Governor to continue performing his duties to ensure the uninterrupted operation of the Central Bank.
This directive, the HSC statement said, aims to maintain financial, economic, and political stability and serve the public interest—with a focus on controlling public spending and preventing any irregularities regarding the use of foreign currency—pending consideration and a final decision on the resignation in accordance with constitutional and legal rules and procedures.
