First commercial ship arrives at Derna Port – after Hurricane Daniel disaster of 2023

The Derna and the Affected Cities and Areas Reconstruction Fund announced today that the first commercial ship arrived at the port of Derna today, more than a year after the Hurricane Daniel disaster that hit the city in September 2023.

‎The ship, which carried 3,000 tonnes of cement for a company operating in the city, is an important step towards restoring the city’s commercial activity, which was heavily affected by the damage caused by the cyclone, the Fund said.‎

‎This event, it added, is an important logistical achievement that shows the progress of reconstruction efforts and enhances the movement of the local economy in the city. ‎

‎It is also the beginning of the gradual return of life to the city and contributes to supporting construction and infrastructure projects that contribute to the development of Derna and its return to the path of stability and growth, the Fund said.
