The Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL) discussed prospects for cooperation in the clean energy sector with, Liu Jian, the Chargé d’affaires of the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli. The discussions took place at an expanded meeting held yesterday at REAoL’s Tripoli headquarters.
The meeting focused on exploring ways to enhance cooperation with China in the field of renewable and clean energy, within the framework of the work of the High Committee for Supervising Libyan Chinese Cooperation, of which REAoL is a member, established by Cabinet Resolution No. (442) of 2025.
The meeting was chaired by Abdul Salam Al-Ansari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Renewable Energy Authority and attended by several REAoL board and executive members.
20% renewable energy sources into Libya’s overall energy mix by 2035
During the meeting, the Libyan side presented its National Energy and Energy Efficiency Strategy, which aims to incorporate 20% renewable energy sources into Libya’s overall energy mix by 2035, contributing to sustainable development and energy diversification.
Promising investment opportunities discussed
The two sides also discussed promising investment opportunities in solar and wind energy projects, highlighting targeted projects to develop renewable energy infrastructure in several regions, which open-up broad prospects for partnership and joint investment.
At the conclusion of the meeting, both sides emphasized the importance of strengthening ongoing coordination through the Libyan Chinese Joint Higher Committee and expediting the translation of shared visions into practical and tangible projects on the ground, serving the mutual interests of both countries.
