The Tripoli based Ministry of Transport’s Airports Authority announced yesterday that Sebha airport resumed international flights after years of suspension
It said this is an important step to enhance air connectivity to the southern Libyan region. The first international flight was destined to Borg El Arab Airport in Alexandria in Egypt, operated by Afriqiyah Airways.
The Airports Authority said the resumption of international flights from Sabha Airport comes after continuous efforts by it and airport officials to develop infrastructure and remove obstacles that were hindering international operations. This step is important to connect the southern region with the outside world and strengthen trade and tourism links.
It also said the administrative and technical team of the airport has recently made great efforts to rehabilitate the infrastructure, develop the capabilities of employees and equip the airport, which enabled the resumption of international flights and serve the people of the southern region.
This achievement is also, it added, an important step in promoting economic and tourism development in Libya, as it will contribute to facilitating the movement of people and goods between Libya, neighbouring countries and the world.
