Libyan Railroads reported last Wednesday (8 September) that it is positive that China Railway Construction Corporation (CRCC) and its subsidiary China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCEC) will resume work on its railway project
The news came out in discussions of a Libyan Railroads meeting held at its Tripoli headquarters last Wednesday which ‘‘touched upon positive indicators arising from ongoing deliberations between Libyan Railroads and the Chinese company CCECC.
These talks aim to expedite the submission of operational plans and schedules to resume the railway infrastructure project for the two relevant sectors’’.
It will be recalled that in July this year, Libyan Railways signed an agreement in Beijing with China Civil Engineering Construction Corporation (CCECC) for the Chinese company to resume the implementation work on its stalled railway projects ‘‘in accordance with the contracts concluded between the two parties’’. No further details of the contract were revealed.
The agreement was signed during Libyan Railroads’ delegation’s visit to China to participate in the 12th World Congress on High-Speed Rail in Beijing from 8 to 11 July.
The agreement signing followed a working meeting held between the technical delegation of Libyan Railroads headed by Chairman Saeed Al-Kilani, and members of his accompanying delegation with Chen Shichang, General Manager of CCECC and several company officials, in the presence of the Libyan Ambassador to China, Khaled Al-Sayeh.
The meeting discussed the contracts concluded between the two parties to implement railway projects in the Tripoli - Ras Ajdir, Tripoli - Sirte and Al-Haysha – Sebha sectors.
According to Libyan Railroads, during the meeting, CCECC had expressed its desire to complete the implementation of the project. It was agreed to continue coordination to demonstrate the difficulties and find solutions for the return of the Chinese company to resume the implementation of the Libyan railway project.
