Libyan Railroads: near launch of works with Japan's Hitachi - first resumption of work on railway project

Libyan Railroads reported today that the first implementation preparatory meeting was held yesterday at its Tripoli headquarters.

The meeting was in preparation to launch an implementation contract concluded with the Japanese company Hitachi.

The contract is for the implementation of signalling, telecommunications, and power supply works for the Ras Ajdair–Sirte and Al-Heisha–Sabha railway projects.

Libyan Railways said this marks the first sign of the resumption of work on Libya's railway project.

This comes following the approval of a contract amendment and the signing of an agreement with Hitachi (formerly Italy's Ansaldo) to activate operations and establish a work schedule for the project.

Agreement with Hitachi to resume work
It will be recalled that in July this year, Libyan Railroads announced that that it had established a roadmap to resume implementation of contracted work with Hitachi.

The agreement came about during its ongoing meetings held in Egypt since with Hitachi. Libyan Railroads is contracted under Contract No. (2/2009) with Hitachi for the supply and installation of the communications and signalling system.

It had also revealed that negotiations have commenced regarding the addendum related to the name and address of the second party.
