London, 23 August 2021:

UNSMIL welcomed on Saturday the resumption of the flow of water to Tripoli and commended the efforts of the 5+5 Joint Military Commission (JMC) and the Magharha tribe, that led to the re-opening of the Man-Made River water supply.

UNSMIL reiterated that access to water and water supply should not be politicized.

It will be recalled that just over a week ago a group of armed youth from the Magharha tribe forcibly shutdown the MMR water supply to Tripoli and its environs demanding the release of their kin, Abdullah al-Senussi, Muamar Qaddafi’s son-in-law and a senior official in the former regime.

Senussi, along with several other members of the Qaddafi regime have been awaiting trial/ completion of trial/sentencing since the 2011 revolution. Family and kin have often complained about lack of visiting access, bad treatment, poor health care, etc.
