The Man-Made River Authority reported yesterday that due to the increasing number of attacks on its system, which deprive water of its rightful recipients and directly damage mechanical equipment, potentially leading to pipe bursts (as the pipelines operate in areas with high pressures reaching 20 bar), and in order to ensure a regular water supply to the Western Mountain region, it has appealed to the relevant legal authorities for urgent intervention.
In a swift response, the Attorney General instructed the Law Enforcement Department to cooperate directly with the MMR to address and remove these attacks.
Consequently, the central section of the pipeline, from the flow control station in Ash-Shuwayrif, passing through Bani Walid and Tarhuna, and extending along the Western Mountain line from Gharyan to Ar-Rahibat, has been closed.
This closure aims to remove the encroachments that have affected the water supply to the municipalities of the Western Mountain region as quickly as possible and restore water access to its rightful recipients.
Based on its technical responsibilities, the MMR was forced to temporarily halt water flow along this route. Technical teams from the MMR, accompanied by the Law Enforcement Department and the MMR Protection Battalion, will remove encroachments and illegal connections.
The MMR apologised to residents of the affected areas for this emergency measure and will restore water flow as soon as possible.
The MMR affirmed that these measures are taken to maintain the integrity of the system and ensure the continued safe and regular water supply. It urges all citizens to cooperate with the relevant authorities for the public good.
