St James, the private sector Maltese clinic in the Ben Ashour district of Tripoli, has . . .[restrict]closed down indefinitely due to the worsening security situation in Libya.
The chief executive of the St James group, Josie Muscat, told Malta Today that they were ordered by the Maltese government to cease operations. St James had only one remaining Maltese citizen in Libya.
Muscat lamented the fact that his company had taken out some loans in order to expand its operations in Libya.
The St James closure comes at a time when the Italian embassy finally succumbed to the seriously deteriorating situation in Libya by closing its Tripoli embassy down.
Today, Malta’s Prime Minister Joseph Muscat had called for military UN intervention in Libya so as to prevent it from becoming a ‘’failed state’’. He had also called upon any remaining ‘’obstinate’’ Maltese citizens remaining in Libya to return home.
It will be recalled that Malta had shut down its embassy back in November 2014 and the consulate in August.
