The Libyan Business Council (LBC) received last Tuesday (24 September) a delegation from the Italian Embassy, which included the Counsellor and Deputy Ambassador and the Italian Commercial Attaché, as part of the ongoing preparations for organising the Libyan-Italian Forum.
They were received by the Vice Chairman of the Board of Directors, members of the Board of Directors, and the Director of the International Relations and Cooperation Department of the Council.
The meeting focused on discussing a range of vital issues related to the upcoming forum, which is an important platform for strengthening partnerships between the Libyan private sector and Italian companies.
Several main themes were discussed, starting with the mechanisms of participation of the Libyan private sector in the forum, through ways of networking between Libyan businessmen and Italian companies, and ending with discussing investment opportunities available in various fields such as energy, infrastructure, marine wealth, mining, agriculture and technology.
During the meeting, the LBC’s vision of the role of the private sector in the forum was reviewed, considering that this event will be an opportunity to open new horizons for economic and trade cooperation between Libya and Italy and strengthen bilateral partnerships to serve the economic growth of the two countries. There was a focus on enabling Libyan companies to benefit from advanced Italian expertise in various fields, including education and knowledge transfer.
For his part, the Counsellor and Deputy Ambassador expressed his country’s readiness to strengthen cooperation with Libya at this important stage, stressing that the Libyan-Italian Forum will represent an opportunity to strengthen economic relations on solid foundations. He also added that Italian companies see in the Libyan market great potential for growth and expansion, and that the embassy is working hard to facilitate these opportunities.
In turn, the Italian Commercial Attaché touched on the technical aspects related to the participation of Italian companies in the forum and pointed to the importance of close coordination between the LBC and the Italian authorities to ensure the success of the forum and achieve the desired goals.
At the end of the meeting, a proposal was agreed on the mechanisms of cooperation and partnership between the two sides during the forum and the follow-up of its outputs, which will be submitted to the Prime Ministry for consideration and adoption as part of the preparatory steps of the forum.
The LBC said this meeting reflects the mutual keenness of both sides to enhance economic cooperation at this sensitive stage, as Libya and Italy seek to strengthen trade and investment ties to serve their common interests.
