The Italian Embassy has issued approximately 30,000 visas to Libyan citizens.
The statement was made by the Italian Ambassador to Libya, Gianluca Alberini. This came during his meeting with Mohamed Ben Ghalboun, Minister of State for Prime Ministerial and Cabinet Affairs.
During the Tripoli meeting held last Tuesday (21 July), the outcomes of Prime Minister Abdel Hamid Aldabaiba's official visit to Italy and his meeting with the Italian Prime Minister in early May 2026 were discussed.
Both sides emphasized the importance of activating cooperation across various sectors, strengthening political relations, and coordinating positions in international forums.
The meeting also addressed consular cooperation to facilitate visa procedures for citizens of both countries.
Additionally, the issue of illegal migration was discussed, with the Minister of State highlighting the importance of enhancing bilateral cooperation in this area to support joint efforts in addressing the phenomenon.
15,000 visas issued in 2024
It will be recalled that in February 2025, the Italian Embassy in Libya had revealed that the Embassy in Tripoli and its Consulate General in Benghazi had issued over 15,000 visas in 2024.
This, it said, was a 35 percent increase in visa requests processed, which it considered a sign of the strong closeness and collaboration between Italy and Libya.
