Nokia Solutions and Networks (NSN) opened a new office in Tripoli on Wednesday, committing itself to . . .[restrict]improving mobile broadband infrastructure in the country.
The development is an important move towards the modernisation of communications in Libya, to better enable the use of smart phone devices, already widely available, and improve internet access options.
Speaking at the inauguration of the the new office, Head of Middle East and Africa for NSN, Igor Leprince, said the opening was just the first step in delivering world-class mobile broadband to Libya. While he appreciated the efforts of his staff so far, he said, he was looking forward to when the real work would begin.
“NSN is committed to continuing its focus on Libya and to playing a strong role in developing Libyan mobile broadband infrastructure,” Leprince said. “The opening of this modern office marks our readiness to deliver large-scale mobile broadband rollouts in Libya.” He added that NSN would help operators provide a superior mobile broadband experience for their customers.
Chairman of Libyan Post’s Telecommunication and Information Technology Company, Faisel Gergab, and representatives from telecom operators Al-Madar, Libyana and Al-Jeel attended the event.
Gergab said the in-country presence of NSN would enhance Libya’s technology, while also improving knowledge and skills. “NSN’s operations in Libya will greatly contribute to our mobile broadband infrastructure and the country’s development,” he said.
NSN sees its decision to come to Libya as an investment beyond the building-up of infrastructure. The company plans to train telecom engineers in mobile broadband and collaborate with universities to pass on expertise, in efforts to create more employment opportunities for young people.
