The Director of the Dams Department at the Tripoli based Libyan Ministry of Water Resources, Salem Al-Sharif, reported yesterday that the current situation of the dams in the Western Region has stabilized, according to the latest follow-up and monitoring work.
He reported that the quantities of stored water amounted to:
- Wadi Al-Mjanin Dam: 1,200,000 m³, with a level of 265.10 meters above sea level.
- Wadi Ghan Dam: 3,832,000 m³, with a level of 317.32 meters above sea level.
- Wadi Zart Dam: There is no stored water, and the lake is dry.
Al-Sharif confirmed that there are no current flows into the valleys towards the storage lakes in front of the aforementioned dams, indicating that technical crews will continue to monitor and follow up on the dams 24 hours a day, with the situation remaining stable unless climate changes occur in the coming hours.

The extra attention received by Libya’s dams comes on the unfortunate background of Storm Daniel that devastated the city of Derna in September 2023.
Ever since, both the Tripoli and Benghazi governments have been paying attention to the status of wadi (seasonal rivers) paths and dams.
