The Renewable Energy Authority of Libya (REAoL) reported yesterday that it had held a meeting at its Tripoli headquarters, headed by its Chairman Abdel Salam Al-Ansari, with a delegation from the Libyan British Business Council (LBBC), headed by its chairman (and former British Ambassador to Libya) Peter Millett.
The meeting was in the presence of several members of the REAoL Board and directors of relevant departments and offices, and with the participation of several of representatives of companies operating in the energy fields.
The meeting discussed opportunities for cooperation and investment in the energy sector in Libya.
During the meeting, REAoL made a presentation of its role and competencies, its plans, programmes and projects in the field of renewable energy, and the trend the sector is witnessing towards expanding the exploitation of clean energy sources and enhancing the efficiency of energy use.
The two sides also discussed several cooperation opportunities with participating British and international companies, especially in the areas of solar and wind energy projects, and the possibility of companies participating in electrical interconnection projects between Libya and Europe.
Energy efficiency, sustainable solutions and technologies, transfer of knowledge and expertise, and capacity building, were also discussed.
The meeting also touched on discussing the arrangements related to the joint conference between the two sides, in addition to examining future cooperation prospects and proposed practical steps.
It also discussed identifying priority areas of cooperation and follow-up and coordination mechanisms in a way that contributes to supporting renewable energy projects and strengthening partnership with the private sector and international companies.
The meeting stressed the importance of expanding channels of cooperation and communication with specialized companies, in a way that supports Libya’s trends towards diversifying energy sources, enhancing the benefit of renewable resources, and achieving a more sustainable and efficient energy system.
