Libya’s Customs Authority reported yesterday that an extensive meeting was held at its headquarters under the chairmanship of Major General Moussa Ali Mohammed, Director General of the Customs Authority, in the presence of several directors of the competent departments and offices of the Authority, as well as ‘‘representatives of leading international companies’’ in the fields of automated inspection, security and maritime control.
Past contracts concluded with companies
The Customs Authority did not name the companies nor their countries but reported that the meeting dealt with ‘‘the follow-up and activation of a number of contracts and projects concluded with these companies in the past’’. Libya Herald understands that British headquartered Bremesgraf Ltd is one of the companies.
The contracts, the Customs Authority revealed, were in the fields of:
· Automated inspection
· Container inspection
· Monitoring of beaches and seacoasts,
Challenges and obstacles that prevented the completion discussed
The meeting reviewed what has been accomplished during the previous periods and discussed the challenges and obstacles that prevented the completion of their implementation.
Customs needs within best internationally approved technical standards & specifications
The meeting also touched on the Customs Authority’s needs in terms of advanced devices, mechanisms and technologies in accordance with the best internationally approved technical standards and specifications
Supporting efforts to combat smuggling and organized crime
These are in order to enhance inspection and control capabilities, raising the efficiency of work at air, land and seaports, and supporting efforts to combat smuggling and organized crime.
Customs Authority confirmed its keenness to activate contracts
The Customs Authority confirmed its keenness to activate the contracts and projects concluded previously, and to supply the latest devices, mechanisms and technologies in accordance with the highest technical standards, in line with the needs of the work and enhance its capabilities in the field of inspection, control, and protection of air, land and seaports.
