The Tripoli government reported today that work has commenced on the project to pave the new Refrigerated Storage Yard at Tripoli Port.
The project aims to enhance the port's capacity to receive and store goods and containers by establishing a modern, fully equipped refrigerated yard.
It will be recalled that in October 2025, the Libyan Ports Company had announced that it was advancing with steady steps and a clear vision for development and modernization of Tripoli Port. This entailed transforming the port, it said, into a facility that befits Libya’s history, present, and future.
The port’s facilities were being developed through the following initiatives:
- Maintenance of the Marine Affairs building (45% completion at the time), enhancing infrastructure readiness and aligning with modern standards.
- Ongoing work on the central workshop maintenance project and the construction of a new marine equipment maintenance centre—including offices for the winch unit—with the project nearing final completion.
- Maintenance of electrical manhole covers: 60% of the planned work was complete at the time, with efforts underway to finish the remaining units.
- Progress on the seafarers' accommodation building: the first-floor roof had been cast. Meanwhile, the weighbridge and direct delivery facility had reached approximately 85% completion (at the time).
Through these efforts, the Libyan Ports Company said, it aims to transform the port into an advanced platform serving the public interest and a key pillar in upgrading a vital facility that impacts citizens' lives and supports the national economy.
