A ceremony was held today at the Julyana Free Zone to mark the port's receipt of the Statement of Compliance with the requirements of the International Ship and Port Facility Security (ISPS) Code.

This milestone follows the port administration's completion of the necessary security plans and procedures and the verification of their conformity with approved international standards.

The ceremony was opened by Captain Ahmed Al-Omami, Director General of the Juliana Free Zone. In his address, he emphasized the importance of the port obtaining this Statement of Compliance, noting its status as a facility committed to international maritime security requirements. He commended the efforts of the various departments, offices, and staff members who contributed to this achievement and expressed his gratitude to everyone involved in fulfilling the compliance requirements.

For his part, Engineer Mohamed Salem Al-Siwi, Head of the Ports and Maritime Transport Authority, explained that obtaining the Statement of Compliance does not mark the end of the process; rather, it necessitates ongoing training and awareness regarding ISPS Code requirements, as well as keeping pace with updates and developments issued by the International Maritime Organization (IMO).

Al-Siwi noted that adherence to maritime security requirements and international standards would have a positive impact on maritime traffic, contribute to reducing risks and costs associated with insurance and cargo transport, and enhance the port's efficiency and capacity to engage with international shipping lines.

Specialised training for Free Zone personnel
Julyana Free Zone Port reported that its personnel recently underwent a series of specialized training programmes and courses under the supervision of an international expert accredited by the International Maritime Organization (IMO). These programmes aimed to qualify staff and port security officers, enhancing their readiness to handle various security situations.

The training included the execution of simulated scenarios for managing incidents involving hazardous materials, thereby strengthening personnel capabilities and security preparedness in accordance with internationally recognized standards for ship and port facility security.
