Libya’s state National Oil Corporation (NOC) announced yesterday the drilling of development well (A9-LP3D) in the Al-Khair field, operated by Sirte Oil and Gas Production Company, reached its planned total depth of 9,050 feet. Drilling targeted the Lidam formation, which was penetrated at a depth of 8,789 feet, with a reservoir thickness of 174 feet.

It reported that initial well tests showed natural flow without the need for artificial lift, with encouraging production rates confirming the success of the drilling operations and the precise targeting of the reservoir. The well recorded gradual production rates as the choke size increased at each stage, reaching 36/64 inches, with a production rate of 3,209 barrels of oil per day and 1.948 million cubic feet of associated gas per day.

The associated water content was 0%, and the oil density was 40.2 API, reflecting the well's outstanding production performance and the promising potential of the reservoir. These results are positive and encouraging indicators confirming the success of the drilling operation and the achievement of its objectives.

The company said this enhances the prospects for increasing the production capacity of the Al-Khair field and supports the company's plans to maximize the utilization of oil reserves and achieve its production targets.

Sirte Oil and Gas Production Company commenced drilling this development well in the Al-Khair field on April 14th of this year, using the Fayyad Barqan No. 8 drilling rig. It said this is part of its efforts to maintain production rates and enhance the production capacity of its oil fields, and to implement its strategic plans aimed at developing reservoirs and increasing recoverable reserves, in line with the National Oil Corporation's strategic plan to raise production rates and replenish the country's oil reserves.
