Vietnam is interested in cooperation with Libya in the oil and gas sector.
The news came out of a meeting in Hanoi on 7 September between Petrovietnam Vice President & Deputy CEO Vu Dao with Alsudik Ali, Chargé d’affaires of the Embassy of Libya in Vietnam, to discuss opportunities for expanding bilateral cooperation in oil and gas.
Petrovietnam, officially the Vietnam National Industry - Energy Group, formerly the Vietnam Oil and Gas Group, is the state-owned national oil, gas, and energy corporation of Vietnam, established in 1975.
Commenting on the meeting, Petrovietnam said ‘‘With Libya’s abundant oil resources and Petrovietnam’s capabilities across the energy value chain — from exploration and production to gas, power, refining and high-quality oil and gas technical services — the two sides see significant potential for deeper engagement’’.
Petrovietnam reported that the discussion highlighted opportunities to:
• Explore new oil and gas projects;
• Provide high-quality technical services in Libya;
• Strengthen information and professional knowledge exchange;
• Leverage complementary capabilities to support energy development.
Petrovietnam said this engagement represents an important step in expanding international cooperation and translating shared potential into practical opportunities.
Stronger business ties, it added, can contribute not only to mutual growth, but also to deeper Vietnam–Libya relations, energy security and sustainable development.
