‎Chinese state media revealed last Friday that 53 African countries with which China has diplomatic relations, including Libya, will be exempted from customs duties, starting from 1 May until 30 April 2028. The Kingdom of Eswatini is excluded due to its diplomatic relations with Taiwan.

‎Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lin Jian was quoted by Xinhua news agency as saying that his country’s policy views the shared commitment between China and Africa to contribute to global peace and development through stability‎.

‎In the early hours of Friday 1 May, 24 tonnes of South African apples entered China at Shenzhen Customs as the first shipment under the newly effective initiative.

The import tariff policy of China contrasts starkly with the use of import tariffs by the current Trump US administration.
