China’s COSCO shipping adds new direct line to Libya’s Misrata Free Zone

Misrata Free Zone (MFZ) announced last Thursday (30 April) the addition of a new direct shipping service by China’s COSCO Shipping Company.

MFZ said the addition of COSCO to its services, ranked fourth globally, reflects the growing level of logistical cooperation. The connection with Chinese ports to MFZ will contribute to reduced transit times, lower costs, and enhanced supply chains, it added.

The announcement of the new China shipping line connection coincided with MFZ Chairman, Mohsen Al-Sagoutri, receiving Ma Xueliang, Ambassador of China to Libya, on his first official visit to the MFZ. The visit aimed to bolster economic and investment cooperation between the two sides.

The Ambassador was briefed by Al-Sagoutri on MFZ’s operational capabilities and the attractive environment it offers for various economic and investment activities. He highlighted the importance of MFZ and its strategic location connecting Africa to the world, making it a prime destination, particularly for Chinese companies and investors.

The Ambassador’s visit also included a field tour of MFZ’s various facilities, providing an overview of the activities, business environment, and available services.

MFZ said this visit comes in the context of its move to expand its international partnerships and enhance its role as a logistics and investment hub linking regional and international markets.
