Libya’s liver transplant project was launched yesterday to be conducted in collaboration with Turkish specialists.
The launch was announced at the Libyan-Turkish Liver Transplant Forum held on Saturday in Tripoli, under the slogan "Towards Building a Sustainable National Liver Transplant Programme".
The announcement was made in the presence of a specialised medical team from Turkey and a delegation from the Turkish Medipol Hospital. The Libya liver transplant project will be conducted through the use of specialised doctors to work alongside national medical cadres and supervise the procedure of operations, in addition to transferring experiences and exchanging medical knowledge.
The forum comes in implementation of the Tripoli Prime Minister's Decision No. (213) of 2026 on the localisation of liver and stem cell transplants, the diagnosis of genetic diseases for children, and the organisation and supervision of the Department of Support and Development of Medical Services (DSDMS), in cooperation with the National Authority for Organ, Tissue and Cell Transplantation.
Training and qualification programmes of Libyan doctors and medical staff
The forum also reviewed the implementation plan of the project and the training and qualification programmes of Libyan doctors and medical staff, in a way that contributes to developing their capabilities in the field of liver transplantation, localising this type of operation, and building a sustainable national programme to conduct them inside Libya.
