Tripoli’s Sug il Juma Municipality announced yesterday that it had signed last Thursday (6 August) its first investment contract for operating parking facilities within the municipality.
It said the move aims at supporting partnerships with the private sector and boosting local investment.
This achievement, it said, was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the Sug il-Juma Municipal Council, the Mayor, the Municipal Office Director, and relevant municipal departments.
It said this initiative aligns with the municipality's ongoing efforts to develop public services, enhance revenue and infrastructure, and regulate vehicular traffic—thereby helping to alleviate traffic congestion and improve the quality of services provided to citizens.
The municipality said this contract marks the first of several investment projects it is working to implement. These projects aim to foster local development and capitalize on available investment opportunities, ultimately serving the municipality's residents and enhancing the services delivered to them.
It will be recalled that the Aldabaiba government had passed legislation to allow municipalities to keep revenues they generate.
The move will be much welcomed by the municipality’s residents as all of Tripoli suffers from traffic jams, badly parked cars and a lack of parking spaces.
It is hoped that the initiative will encourage other municipalities to contract its car parks to the private sector to solve the car parking problem and to earn them much needed revenues.
